The city of Chania turned red today as it was flooded by thousands Santa Clauses who participated in the charity event of the 6th “Chania Santa Run”! An unprecedented wave of celebration and solidarity flooded the city’s main streets and the picturesque Chania Old Town and Harbor. The charity event was organised for the sixth consecutive year in order to raise funds for the institutions dealing with children's health problems. The participants gathered in the Chania city centre and through the main streets they walked all the way to the old port and then back to the starting point for a party with a live band. Chania Santa Run was the first Santa Run event held in Greece in 2011. Currently, it is proportionally the largest in terms of participants and fundraising not only in Crete and Greece but in the whole of Europe. The event has gained massive popularity and is a living proof that the power of an idea, of a group, a community, a city can make a huge difference! In Chania’s Santa Run timing and medals do not exist everyone is a winner. So, if you haven’t participated in any of the previous events, make sure not to miss it next year.
