Cretaquarium or Thalassocosmos which in Greek means "sea world" is a public aquarium located 15 km east of the city of Heraklion near the town of Gournes in Crete. With 60 tanks and 1.7 million litres of seawater, Cretaquarium is one of the largest aquariums in Europe and the largest in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The aquarium is home to more than 4,000 living organisms with sharks, seahorses, and jellyfish being among the most impressive.
