October must be one of the best months of the year to visit Crete, the southernmost and probably the most diverse island in Greece. Although the temperatures are not as hot as the blistering summer months of July and August, it is still warm enough to take full advantage of the numerous beaches around the island. For those wishing to enjoy scenic walks and trek through the beautiful mountains of Crete, you will find right temperature in October. During this month, Crete boasts an average of six hours of soul filling pleasant sunshine each day. Just enough to provide guests and travelers from the north with the extra vitamin boost, before facing the dark winter months ahead. Even though October falls within the autumn season, the sea around Crete is warm enough for swimming, with average temperatures of 23°C, - only 2°C lower than the peak sea temperatures for the year in Crete. As shown within the above photo, both locals and visitors get to enjoy a sunny October day on the beach of Kalathas. One of the beloved beaches of the Akrotiri peninsula, and located close to the city of Chania in western Crete. In October, visitors will be able to enjoy and experience every side to this beautiful island and discover that Crete is a lot more than its beaches.
