Located south of the province of Chanià in the area of Frangokastelo and overlooking the Libyan Sea towards Africa, Kritama Beach is a hidden treasure. Stretches of steep white cliffs that remind of the Atlantic Ocean combined with the turquoise shallow waters of the Mediterranean Sea and thin sand compose one the most beautiful sceneries in Crete. And like every well hidden beauty is not easily accessible. You can either swim for approximately 700m to Kritama from the nearby ‘bordering’ and equally beautiful beach of Orthi Ammos (meaning ‘upright sand’) or climb down a very difficult and steep path. Kritama is ideally reached either by boat or a jet-ski. It’s not recommended for people travelling with young children or individuals with mobility difficulties. Kritama beach comes as a pleasant surprise to the ones that believe that they have seen the whole of Crete. There is always more to be seen in Crete which has on all occasions a hidden ace up in the sleeve.
